Product Spotlight - FAS Sound Perimeter SealPosted on 2016-08-24
As Fire and Acoustic Seals Sound Perimeter Seal is the product in the spotlight, we wanted to take some time and let you know a bit more about the product and it's applications.
All doors need a gap between the perimeter of the door and the door frame in order to allow the door to function as intended. Doors are designed fundamentally to be opened and closed easily whilst accommodating any expansion/movement within the building.
This gap also creates a problem as it allows sound, smoke, fire and heat (both hot and cold) to pass through the door.
Specifically designed to minimise sound permeating through your doorset, our Fire and Acoustic Seals Sound Perimeter Seal offers excellent compression and deflection performance up to 36dB rated. It has low closing forces due to low coefficient material used in its integral fins. This product is also supplied with a high performance adhesive backing for ease of application.
The Fire and Acoustic Seals Sound Perimeter Seal can be used for many different applications, including:
· Pedestrian doorsets, single and double leaf constructions
· Surface mounted substrates: timber, steel, composite materials
· Latched and unlatched doors
· New build and retro-fit applications
Testing undertaken in accordance with BS EN ISO 240-3:1995 revealed a timber doorset assembly with no seals fitted around the perimeter of the doorset achieved an Rw23dB rating. This falls well below the minimum specified in Approved Document E (which is Rw29dB). When tested again with FAS Perimeter Seal in conjunction with FAS Drop Down Seal there was an increase in the performance taking it to Rw36dB (tested) depending on the doorsets.
