Fire and Acoustic Seals Launches First RIBA-Approved CPD Seminar

In today’s increasingly regulated construction environment, clarity in fire protection specification is no longer optional — it is essential.

Following the Grenfell tragedy and subsequent regulatory changes, architects, consultants and designers now carry greater responsibility for ensuring that products are suitable for their intended use and compliant with fire safety requirements.

Specifiers must understand a range of critical factors, including:

  • Product limitations
  • Tested applications
  • Compatibility with surrounding systems
  • Fire classification requirements
  • Regulatory obligations
  • Installation tolerances

To support the professional development of architects and specifiers, Fire and Acoustic Seals (FAS) has launched its first RIBA-approved CPD seminar: The Importance of Sealing the Linear Gap Around Fire Doorsets.

The one-hour seminar provides a comprehensive overview of the role sealing systems play in passive fire protection. Attendees will gain insight into fire testing standards and forthcoming industry changes, compliant product solutions, specification considerations, and the importance of correct installation and detailing.

Participants who complete the seminar will receive a CPD point towards their ongoing professional development.

The seminar addresses three of the ten mandatory RIBA CPD core curriculum topics required for Chartered Members’ annual 35-hour CPD obligation:

  • Legal, regulatory and statutory compliance
  • Design, construction and technology
  • Health, safety and wellbeing

The launch of the CPD builds upon the wider programme of installer training sessions and toolbox talks already delivered by the FAS team.

Paul Gilbert, Head of Technical at Fire and Acoustic Seals, commented:

“We recognise that safe outcomes depend on people as much as products, which is why we have developed this CPD-accredited learning for specifiers.

We have focused on the linear gap around fire doorsets because this is one of the most common failings identified by fire door inspectors. Specifiers need to understand how to identify compliant and appropriately tested products that will perform correctly within fire doorsets in the event of a fire.

We also wanted to provide greater clarity around the relevant regulations affecting these products, as well as forthcoming changes expected over the next few years.
