Can different brands of fire door seals be used together on the same door set?

No, fire door seals, intumescent strips and smoke seals used on a fire door set should be supplied by the same manufacturer and installed in accordance with the door set’s specification, certification and fire test evidence. Fire door seals are tested as part of a complete door assembly, and combining products from different manufacturers may affect the fire performance, smoke control performance and compliance of the door set. Always refer to the door manufacturer’s installation guidance and certification before replacing or upgrading any fire door seals.

Can architraves be fitted over FAS Fire Door Silicone Sealant?

Yes, architraves can be installed over FAS Fire Door Silicone Sealant if required. However, architraves are not essential for the fire performance of the sealant, as FAS Fire Door Silicone Sealant has been successfully tested without architraves as part of the tested fire door sealing system. Always follow the relevant installation guidance and fire test evidence to ensure compliance with the specified fire door assembly.

Why use FAS Fire Door Foam™? What are the alternatives?

FAS Fire Door Foam™ provides a faster and more cost-effective alternative to traditional fire door installation methods that use stone mineral fibre wool and fire-rated mastic. Designed specifically for sealing gaps between fire door frames and surrounding walls, the fire-rated expanding foam helps reduce installation time while maintaining tested fire performance.

Compared with traditional mineral wool and mastic systems, FAS Fire Door Foam™ can help simplify installation, reduce labour time and improve efficiency on site. It is also compatible with standard plastic and timber packers and has been tested for use in fire door assemblies.

Alternative methods for sealing perimeter gaps around fire door frames include:

  • Stone mineral fibre wool with fire-rated mastic
  • Fire-rated acrylic sealants
  • Other tested fire-stopping systems approved for fire door installations

When selecting a fire-stopping solution, always ensure the product has been tested and certified for use within the specific fire door assembly and application.

Is FAS Fire Door Foam™ NHBC approved?

Yes, FAS Fire Door Foam™ is NHBC approved for use in fire door installation applications. The product is also specified and mandated by multiple national housebuilders and building developers for the installation of fire doors, reflecting its suitability for use within tested fire door systems. Designed specifically for sealing gaps between fire door frames and surrounding walls, FAS Fire Door Foam™ provides a fast and effective fire-stopping solution for residential and commercial construction projects.

Always refer to the relevant certification, installation guidance and project specifications to ensure compliance with the requirements of the fire door assembly.
